Daytime EMT Course Offered
Rescue squads throughout the planning district currently have a critical need for volunteer assistance. This is especially true during the daytime hours of the workweek when so many rescue volunteers are at their jobs and unable to respond to calls.
To overcome this shortage in volunteers, the local emergency medical services (EMS) office will be offering a daytime emergency medical technician-ambulance class in conjunction with the Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Classes will begin August 28 and will be held Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon at the classroom in the Culpeper Memorial Hospital. The course will run through early December.
Prospective students must be at least 18 years old, proficient in reading and writing skills and be physically fit. Anyone in the five counties of Planning District 9 (Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Rappahannock and Fauquier) is invited to register for the course. The class will be limited to 20 students, and selection will be weighed towards those who interested in joining a rescue squad within the planning district.
A $28 fee will cover the cost of the textbooks, workbook and any training supplies used during the course.
