Foresters, wildlife specialists and landowners from across the state will visit an Hume farm next month during a tour of private timberlands.
The James Branscome tree farm will be one of the highlights of the June 11 tour sponsored by Virginia Tech. Visitors to the Hume farm will see how successful reforestation techniques were used after a clear cut harvest of Virginia pine.
The tour is part of a statewide series designed to promote good resource management. Participating landowners will provide information on how they grow trees and encourage wildlife.
Buses will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department at Routes 15-234 in Prince William County.
The first stop is Gen. S. P. Spalding’s tree farm in Fairfax. The farm has been managed since 1952 under plans prepared by the Virginia Division of Forestry.
