Shenandoah National Park is seeking local volunteer help to fill unfunded gaps in its visitor service programs.
“The Park is always looking for neighborhood groups, families or friends who would like to contribute valuable public service over a period of time or on one or two occasions each year,” said Park Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen. “Such projects include revegetation of heavily used campgrounds. litter pickup, facility repairs and trail and campsite maintenance.”
A Volunteer in Shenandoah (V.I.S.) brochure (with application) can be obtained from the Park. It lists many opportunities for volunteers such as maintaining trails or trailheads on a regular basis; giving programs on the Park’s natural or cultural history; building trail register boxes, bulletin boards, exhibits and bridges; and organizing special events like Park cleanup days.
