New Zoning Ordinance?
The planning commission, during its regular meeting May 15, announced that consultant Dick McNear will submit within two weeks a completed draft of the proposed county zoning ordinance. There was no further discussion of the matter.
• Kvarnes Plan Recommended
In its regular meeting on May 15, the planning commission recommended that the supervisors approve Eric Kvarnes’s development plan for a crafts village to be located in Sperryville at the former site of Charles Estes’s junk yard.
• More Animal Worries
Due to the increased cost of animal care and the number of animals received, the Culpeper Animal Welfare League will no longer be able to accept animals from surrounding counties. The League will continue to care for all Culpeper County animals.
• Chuse Is Council President
David Chuse of Rock Mills has been named president of the Conservation Council of Virginia.
The Council is a broad coalition of statewide citizens and organizations that speaks to the environmental concerns of Virginia. Chuse said he was pleased to have the opportunity to lead the organization and that he hopes he can do something to preserve the state’s natural resources.
• Memorial Day Service
Trinity Episcopal Church will present a Memorial Day service at the site of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Woodville Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27. This will be the third year the service has been held, and the first year that the RCHS band will provide music.
Reverend Jennings Hobson said that there will be a short program in remembrance of those buried at the cemetery and in observance of the national holiday. The public is invited to attend.
