Art Show

Wakefield School in Huntly held its annual Spring Art Show this week. The show had entries from more schools than ever before and Art Department Chairman James Bennett expressed satisfaction with the number and quality of entries. The judging was done by John Underwood, a commercial artist in Front Royal.

Cash awards were given in three categories. In the drawing and painting category, Eric Wachtmeister of Highland School won for his “Flowers in Window” in the beginners division; in the intermediate division, Jill Waterman of Hill School won for her “Block Print”; and in the senior division, David Barber of Fauquier County High School was awarded the prize for his “Kagetor Demon”.

In the sculpture category, Jennifer Anderson of Wakefield School won first prize in the junior division and John Cloud of Fauquier High School won in the senior division.

In the photography competition, Stephen Landis of Wakefield won first prize in the junior division and in the senior division, Lee Goodwin of Fauquier High won the first prize.

In other art news, five Wakefield students won prizes in the poster contest sponsored by Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal. In the first grade division Nicole Langfitt won first place, Elizabeth Hickson won second place and Peter Culley won third place.“In the third grade division, Chelsea Noel won first place and Patricia Moyer won second.

Tennis Teams

The Wakefield School Tennis teams suffered two losses this week in hard-fought matches against Woodberry Forest and Highland School.
