it would be a major event, Gaby braced herself for the shock but it never came.
“Americans take life more easily than Germans,” Gaby said. “If you have a car accident, it’s not a big deal. In Germany it would take two weeks to get over it. The Germans worry too much.”
Gaby likes the openness of Americans. “In Germany everything is planned,” she said. “Here if you want to invite a friend over for dinner, you just say ‘Sure c’mon over’.” The Germans are more formal than that - when someone comes over to eat, serious preparation is required.
Last fall, Gaby travelled with the Helmers to Florida. Recently the family returned from a trip to New York. Gaby has loved it all. “This family is really unique,” she said.
