To the editor:
Several years ago, at the time of the S.O.S. (“Save Our Schools”) upheaval, the public school children were manipulated and exploited by certain persons employed in the schools, and a few others, to push their demands at budget time. Last week we had a repetition of this sorry scene, under another school administration.
The high school principal should have known better than to get involved with this sort of thing; he must be aware of the compulsory school attendance laws of this Commonwealth and of his duty toward these young people. What a lesson in civics and government to teach them! Let him defend his actions before a Federal or State judge on the plea that he could not prevent the students in his charge from exercising their right to free speech under the First Amendment outside the school building! Oh, let him try!
