When politicians gather, they have to hope for still weather, as any reference to windiness will undoubtedly lead to unseemly laughter at their expense. It gives me great pleasure, therefore, to report that on Saturday afternoon. May 18, at a Republican gathering at Gascony, Senator Paul Trible’s farm in Northumberland County, all the wind came from the Chesapeake Bay; nothing issued forth from the speaker’s platform but calm good sense and the knowledge that Virginia can solve her own problems if the Federal bureaucracy will get its “hands out of our pockets and its legislation off our backs,” in the words of gubernatorial candidate Wyatt Durrette.
