A special use permit request submitted by Eric Kvarnes was approved with a condition by the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals on Wednesday, May 22. The permit will allow Kvarnes to establish a crafts village on Route 211 near Sperryvflle.
Kvarnes had originally applied for a special use permit to add a wall to a building so that it could be used as a
potters. A decision on that application was postponed a month so that the request could be advertised.
“I decided to go ahead and apply for the crafts village because it looks like I’ll need to build a wall in another building, and rather than do it permit by permit by permit I thought that I would submit the whole plan to take care of whatever permits may be required,” Kvarnes said.
One building on the property is being used to house Kvarnes’ glassblowing operation, and he said that he might construct a wall in that building to separate an office space. The future uses of the other buildings have not been determined beyond the plan to use them as shops for craftspeople.
The site of the buildings was formerly Pete Estes’ junkyard. Kvarnes plans to use the same entrance to the property as was used for the junkyard, but he said that he had not received an official approval of the entrance from the State Highway Department. “They have just not had time to get out there
