Summer jobs bountiful
The summer employment market for teenagers is “about the best I’ve ever seen it,” says the Fauquier High School counselor in charge of job placement.
Many companies and businesses have contacted the county’s only high school in search of summer help, according to Counselor Harriet Skolnick.
Fast food restaurants and building contractors head the list of businesses seeking employees. Because of the building boom in Fauquier and numerous fast food eateries along the Warrenton bypass, Mrs. Skolnick believes many Fauquier high school students will work in the county this summer instead of searching for bigger bucks in Northern Virginia.
School Board
expects surplus
The Fauquier School Board last week approved a $23 million 1985-86 spending plan that gives a 10 percent salary increase to all school personnel w and provides for 15 new teaching positions.
In approving the new teaching positions as well as eight more clerical and maintenance jobs, the School Board went out on a financial limb based on the belief that projected surplus funds of $175,000 in fiscal 1986 would cover the cost of such payroll additions.
School officials approved the new positions despite the Board of Supervisors decision to cut the school budget request by $1.3 million.
