Mrs. Metzinger gave a warm and enthusiastic welcome and greetings to the ceremony were given by Mayor Rosenberg. Philip Cox, former executive assistant to the president of the American Security Council, the main speaker for this occasion, related the activities of John and David Jameson who were brothers and residents of Culpeper County and in closing said that the Jameson men were “good soldiers in war and good citizens in peace.” Both men were founding members of the Culpeper Masonic Lodge and also founding members of the Culpeper Minute Men Battalion in 1775 which was made up of men from counties now known as Culpeper, Rappahannock, Fauquier and Madison.
Mrs. Walter Hughey King, president general NSDAR and a direct descendant of David Jameson, unveiled the patriot marker worded: “To the glory of God in memory of Lieutenant David Jameson founding member Culpeper Minute Men 1775. Mary Mennis, his wife, and Lieutenant Colonel John Jameson founding member Culpeper Minute Men 1775. September 23, 1780 by his order to apprehend became captor of Andre who was executed as a spy October 2,1780.”
