In the center’s history, though, there has been only one animal escape from the compound. “One snowy night, a camel got out because it had been fighting with another camel and it broke through the fence,” Dr. Wemmer said. “It was walking down 522 heading to town when we detoured it onto the back roads and into the paddock area.”
Dr. Wemmer pointed out that many of the animals could go through the fences if they wanted to. “They would have to be under some kind of stress to break out,” Dr. Wemmer said. “Most animals would want to break in here.”
