They need tender loving care in transporting from the field to home. If carried in the trunk of a car with the lid down, the berries are likely to be cooked or made into jam before they get home.
Transport berries in small containers, being careful not to overcrowd. Place the picked berries in as cool and airy a location as possible. Carry them home and enjoy quickly.

Whole Strawberries
May be frozen by washing, but not removing the caps. Dry berries on paper toweling; place on cookie sheets one layer deep and place in freezer. When frozen, pack the berries in freezer bags or containers and label.
When ready to serve, pour out desired amount, thaw slightly; remove caps and prepare for serving. Return unused berries immediately to the freezer.
