dinance could cause all buildings to look alike in town. “I don’t believe that it’s saying that you cannot do renovations or additions, but they have to fit,” Reynolds said. He said that the ordinance would not prevent a new building in town as long as the plans conformed to the town’s character.
Planner Byrd Jones pointed out that the town already has many different architectural styles represented. “People weren’t alike, and they lived differently and did differently,” Jones said. Reynolds said that for anyone wishing to build “something very original and new, maybe this isn’t the place to do it.”
He said that the ordinance would not mandate that all houses look the same. ‘‘Washington should never look the same, and I would never be in favor of that happening,” Reynolds said.
The planners also added a sentence to the ordinance dealing with satellite television dishes. The sentence, added to section 7C of the ordinance, is “Satellite dish antennae shall, to the extent practicable, be screened from view.”
