’ The tests, administered and supervised by the Adult Education Service of the Department of Education are designed to measure the educational development of individuals who left school before graduation.
The battery of five tests in English Composition, Social Studies, Natural Science, Literature and Mathematics are designed to measure the major skills that result from four-year high school curriculum.
By achieving satisfactory scores on GED tests adults may earn a high school equivalency certificate, qualify for admission to college or advanced educational opportunities; meet educational requirements from employment or promotion; satisfy educational qualifications for induction in the United States Armed Forces.
Certificates may be issued to civilian and military personnel who meet the following requirements:
An applicant must be at least 18 years of age. Under special circumstances which are considered justifiable by local school authorities, the age limit may be lowered.
Applicants must have been a physical resident of Virginia thirty days prior to applying for testing.
Persons interested in taking the test may apply at their local office of the Superintendent of Schools in the County in which they reside.
