“There is a real need for art at the elementary level. It is an outlet for the children. . .a way for them to express themselves. They are eager to try it, but they need stimulus, feedback, direction. The teachers can help but they are limited in time, knowledge and the supplies available. There’s only one art class in the school system—and that’s at the high school.” Mr. Lewis added that “not all the kids love art, but some children are visually gifted, and the school is not equipped to meet their needs.
