This past week, I attended an intensive training session in Crossville, Tenn. As a member of the Virginia 4-H Shooting Sports Development Committee, I represented Virginia in the archery area. The seven members of the committee, received extensive and comprehensive training in each area of expertise — archery, rifle, pistol, shotgun, muzzleloader, hunting skills, program coordination, and the training of other volunteers.
Monday through Friday, 16- to 18-hour days made each of us appreciate the quality and dedication of the training staff and of the donors who made the seminar possible.
The seminar was called the Southeast District 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop. However, state training teams came from all over the country — Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, Texas, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Vermont, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Oklahoma. From those state delegations, more than 140 of us represented the growing interest in the shooting sports programs involving 4-H vouth.
