The microfilm copies are processed and sent to Richmond where they are examined, frame by frame, to insure that every page is included and properly exposed. After the film is inspected, each reel is catalogued and placed in a temperature and humidity controlled storage vault for safekeeping.
Ms. Shenk said that once the film has been exposed, it is “never again touched by human hands. All through the processing and inspection procedure, the film gets whiteglove treatment, since the acid found on human skin will destroy the film.”
