If sludge disposal in a landfill is to much of a hazard in an already hazardous situation then possibly we could erect a small incinerator for this purpose?
It may be possible to temporarily transport our sludge out of the county until we can establish our own landfill, which we all know that we need, yet no one wants it near them, and it’s the same attitude in every county.
The supervisors are being pursued into establishing an animal shelter, and while the idea of housing it on the same lot with a landfill is a good one it should not stand in the way of clearing up the lawsuit that is standing.
Our landfill should be located in the least populated area of the county, with the proper testing to insure minimal ground water contamination, but we must have a site first!
We may yet find ourselves in litigation with the sludge haulers and on the outs with the State Water Control Board for issuing permits, but fight we must at that time. And I wonder if all of those who have used legal pressure’s against the board of supervisors will then support them in their decision to protect our quality of life in Rappahannock County.
