•The categories were ages 8-12, 12-15
and adults. Competitive events included softball throw, long jump, 50 meter run, 100 meter run, shot put and high jump. A relay race also took place with four girls on the team.
Results of the Rappahannock County students were:
Thomas Brown: first-shot put, second-softball throw and 100 meter, third-50 meter.
Tony Brady: second-50 meter and 100 meter and softball throw.
Todd Smoot: first-shot put and softball throw, second-50 meter, fifth-100 meter.
John Coombs: first-50 meter wheelchair race and softball throw.
Peggy Gallihugh: second-50 meter and 400 meter relay, third-standing long jump, fourth-100 meter.
Gina Dodson: first-standing long jump, second-100 meter and 400 meter relay and high jump.
Kim Stringfellow: second-400 meter relay, third-100 meter and softball throw.
Michelle Jenkins: first-long jump, second-200 meter and 400 meter relay, fourth-high jump.
According to the students, participating was as much fun as winning.
