“In my 14 years in the company, this was the best carnival we ever had,” said Steve Leake, chief of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department.
Company treasurer Richie Burke agreed. “The whole membership was well pleased with the carnival. The weather held out good for us — a whole lot better than last year.”
Mr. Burke reported that the department grossed $18,764 for the carnival’s five-night run. Starting the event on Tuesday was a new experiment for the volunteers, and it was a success, Mr. Leake added.
