At a special pay-out session Wednesday, the last meeting in the current fiscal year, the Rappahannock School Board approved an $8,182 “bail out” for the cafeteria fund, a fill-up for gasoline and fuel oil tanks, a new calculator for the school bookkeeper, extra tires for the school bus fleet, and at the high school, a TRS 80 word processor for the office, a new public address system, lockers for the girls’ and boys'locker rooms, a sound system and stage curtains for the auditorium and replacements for the water damaged tiles in the front hall.
Even with these final expenditures of fiscal 1986, the board will still return $45,825 to the county’s general fund.
Superintendent Robert Estabrook explained that state payments, particularly sales tax revenue, came in much higher than anticipated. “We just don’t know until mid-May at the earliest and sometimes not until the end of June exactly what the state revenue will be,” he said.
In addition to $48,708 left from the $3,010,509 total approved for 1985-86 by the Board of Supervisors, Rappahannock’s schools have received an extra $45,825. The $48,708 can be spent by the School Board; the $45,825 cannot since it is above and beyond what the supervisors authorized, Mr. Estabrook noted.
