Also on July 5th at half past three the Ruritans will dedicate the Amissville baseball field to the memory of Captain Luther B. Stuart, who died November 20, 1980. Capt. Stuart had provided the land for the recreational use by the community up until his death. He wished to make available permanently, so in fulfilling his wish, Mrs. Stuart deeded the nine acres to the Amissville Ruritan Club, which had sponsored the first area little league baseball team in 1967. The only stipulations of the deed were that the baseball teams be given priority in usage. Improvement of this land is presently one of the Ruritans biggest projects. “One of our goals is to build a big clubhouse which would serve as a meeting hall for any interested clubs in the community,” says Jerry Curtis, current Ruritan president.
