Zoning Administrator John McCarthy emphasized that the building inspector must have “pretty sound reasons” for signing off on a set of prints.” If the prints are approved without ensuring compliance with structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing regulations, this poses “a serious liability question” for the county. Should an accident occur with death or injury resulting, and an investigation shows that the structure didn’t meet the building state code, “then it comes back to our door,” he cautioned.
Supervisor Hubert Gilkey said that sending prints to BOCA to review would take at least a week and still not remove the county’s responsibility for insuring compliance with all building regulations.
