Merrill s Garage ... I used to drive the school bus. It would cut off when I stopped to pick up the children, and the fella who worked on the buses for the county couldn't seem to fix it."
"One day it quit — and I couldn’t get it started again. We had it towed to Merrill s. Goose worked on it for a few minutes and had it fixed. He was a good mechanic.”
Steve Leake agreed. "In his prime he was one of the best auto mechanics around. He was there (at Merrills Garage) from the time I was big enough to remember.”
"Goose always had a joke for you. He was a happy-go-lucky fellow. I never heard him have so much as a cross Word with anyone,” Mr. Leake added.
“He was a good person,” Mr. Woodard concluded. "He was willing to help anyone, and he always appreciated what people did for him.”
Mr. Pullen is survived by his mother, Virgie Alther Pullen, of Sperryville. He also leaves two sisters, seven children and seven grandchildren.
