During the four-week school, the students will explore the interdisciplinary nature of the arts, Lentczner said. Students will meet three times a week for lectures and readings and at other times in small group seminars.
“Recognizing the fact that the arts don’t exist in a society all by themselves,” Lentczner noted that other components will be brought into the program which will “show the students that artists think about other things than just art.” One new component is a writing program which will enable “these young artists to demonstrate their creativity in another tangible way,” he said. Requiring this of Governor’s School students reflects the university’s commitment of writing on every level, Lentczner added.
Other sessions will include stress management, study habits and techniques for dealing with stage fright as well as field trips to Center in the Square in Roanoke and Abingdon’s Barter Theafre.
