In fact, Mr. Camgan noted that each year he must get a federal permit listing everyone who handles the explosives. “With the rise of terrorism, I fear that there will be great restrictions in the future,” he said.
This year’s program will be on the theme “God and Country,” and Mr. Carrigan can speak very eloquently on the relationship between patriotism and divine inspiration.
“Ben Franklin was not known as an especially religious man,” said Mr. Carrigan. “But he pleaded with the members of the Continental Congress to let themselves be guided by divine inspiration instead of only human wisdom.”
To carry out the evening’s theme, there will be a choral presentation, coordinated by Dr. Merlin Shorb of the Flint Hill Methodist Church.
“This will not be only a choral group presentation,” Mr. Carrigan noted, “but groups will perform individual numbers according to their tradition and expertise.”
Mr. Carrigan promised an exact schedule of events to be published next week, but the foot races and other children’s activities will begin at 6 and the choral program will begin about an hour before dusk.
