“It’s not the best but it’s better than we might have expected,” commented Supervisor Charles Estes, as the Board of Supervisors on Monday adopted an amended $4.7 million budget for 1986-87 and set tax rate at 58 cents per $100 of assessed value for real estate and $2.10 per $100 for personal property.

The rate on personal property — applied only on licensed motor vehicles — will be as levied on 100 percent of finance value; last year’s rate of $5.60 was applied to just 25 percent of finance value. The change is expected to generate an additional $90,000 for Rappahannock’s general fund. This coupled with $151,899 drawn from surplus allows the board to keep the real estate rate as last year’s level without drastically reducing appropriation requests.
