For the 25th consecutive year, Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan have invited the Rappahannock community to picnic on the lawn of Avon Hall on July 4th and to watch the magnificent fireworks display and other events presented there.
Mr. Carrigan attributes his interest in Independence Day to his boyhood in Iowa. “In the Midwest, it was really a big day,” he said. “Everyone — farmers, merchants, children and all the churches — celebrated the Fourth in whatever fashion they could. It was bigger — much bigger there than it was in the East.”
