With the bureaucratic ball already rolling on one potential landfill site, a special committee is appealing for alternatives to send bouncing towards the Virginia Division of Solid Waste Management.
Meeting last Wednesday at the courthouse, the Rappahannock County Site Selection Committee put out the call to landowners or their agents for property to be assessed for suitability as a sanitary landfill. The committee is seeking tracts of at least 40 acres which may be purchased or leased by the county.
“We expect responses,” noted committee chairman Mike Massie. “I think people will come forward when they realize there’s a lot of money in trash.”
The committee asks that responses be submitted to its members by November 24. Those members, two from each of Rappahannock’s magisterial districts, are:
