lar race.

And nearly $1 million has been raised in the race for the 2nd District seat of retiring Republican G. William Whitehurst in the Tidewater area.

Congressional candidates must file quarterly financial reports with the Federal Election Commission in Washington. The reports, which were due Oct. 15, also are collected by the State Board of Elections in Richmond.

In the 10th District, Republican incumbent Rep. Frank Wolf reported $636,494 in contributions with a $330,170 cash balance on Sept. 30. His Democratic challenger, Fairfax Supervisor John G. Milliken, had raised $540,732 and had a cash balance of $197,062.

The 10th District race’s fund-raising total of nearly $1.2 million makes the campaign for the suburban Washington seat the most costly in the state this year.
