screamed. Mrs. Compton, 75, was “pushed a bit” during a brief scuffle with Suzie Larimer, Eastham testified. Later in the evening, after Mrs. Compton had left the house to go to stay with a relative, the thieves returned and made off with several watches, pocketbooks, pocketwatches, a clock and silverware.

Describing the crime as “a trophy hunt . . . more or less a prank,” Larimer said that the group had no particular plans to dispose of the items taken from the Compton house. “We weren’t really thinking ‘This could get us in serious trouble’,” he testified.
