“There is no place like home” . . .In the case of my brothers and me there’s no place like Rappahannock, most especially Amissville. We left, as daddy so often says, “to make our way in the world” almost twenty years ago. We have been all over the globe and now live on either coast and the mid-west. However, when asked, Amissville is home, . mo other place having ever laid claim to our hearts, and never quite sure why. . .until daddy got sick. Then we realized that we had clung to and cherished a way of life rather than a place.
Daddy, Howard Lawson, “Deacon” to most, has been ill for almost a year and was just recently released from the hospital after nine weeks. In that time the kindness, consideration and affection lavished on both him and our mother has been constant, flowing from every home in the community.
