In addition to the truck violations, one motorist was arrested for driving under the influence. He was reported to troopers by one of the truckers stopped at the roadblock.
State Police Sergeant G. H. Gregory pronounced the operation “successful . . . not only the number of violations, but the people who might intentionally violate the law will get the word. We hope it will discourage those violations. We intend to continue to do everything we can to strictly enforce the (motor carrier) safety laws already on the books.
“We share the concerns of citizens about anything which threatens highway safety. We take those concerns quite seriously - that’s why we mounted this cooperative effort,” the sergeant concluded.
„ Trooper Newlin added that “you'll see more of these efforts forthcoming. We’re going to get together the same team . . . determine the best days and times to mount these enforcement efforts . . . the amount of complaints received by everyone about trucks provides justification for this type of enforcement."
