No smoking
policy gains
in Va. schools
One hundred, or 75 percent, of the 134 public school divisions in Virginia have adopted “no smoking” policies for their students, according to a recent statewide telephone survey by the American Lung Association of Virginia (ALAV). Under these new regulations, students are not allowed to smoke on school grounds during school hours.
Sarah Stacy SLAV’S director of the program, said most of the schools that still allow students to smoke are working towards a “no smoking” policy. Ms. Stacy predicted that within one to two years, all Virginia school divisions will have implemented “no smoking” policies for their students.
