Last week alone, Rappahannock’s emergency log listed five accidents on Route 522, Mr. Sinnott told the supervisors. “Something has to be done!” he insisted, asking the board to petition the Highway Department to ban through trucks except those making deliveries in the county. “It might prevent one of our school buses from being hit . . . We’re pushing our luck on that as far as the children go ... I understand that the Highway Department will look favorably on this resolution . . . That’s what I was told.”
Earlier in the meeting, Supervisor Charles Estes reported on his lobbying efforts at a recent regional Highway Department meeting to consider funding for critical improvement projects. “I think they’re going to step up (work on Route) 17 so they can take the truck traffic off 522 and 211 ... I think the time frame will be pushed up,” Mr. Estes told his fellow board members.
