Red Cross
asks for funds
With donations lagging, the Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross has renewed its plea for funds to meet its goal this year of $21,897. In a letter mailed to usual contributors, chapter resident H. T. A. Nevill pointed out that the chapter will be unable to perform all of its services unless the revenue goal is met.
Last year the Red Cross conducted two very successful emergency campaigns for money for disaster relief, but all of those funds went to national headquarters, none being retained for use by local chapters.
Although part of the annual revenue must go to national headquarters, the bulk of the money collected locally is spent for services in the two counties, Fauquier and Rappahannock, for aid to military families and veterans, assistance at the hospital, safety instruction and disaster relief. Recently, for example, a fire at an apartment building in Remington required housing assistance for four families.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution should send the donation to: Fauquier Chapter, American Red Cross, 53 South Third Street, Warrenton, Va. 22186.
