Portions of Skyline Drive will again be closed to vehicles during certain night hours during the upcoming hunting season, Shenandoah National Park Superintendent Ronald N. Wrye announced, due to the illegal hunting pressure which occurs along the Drive during hunting season.
From November 9 through January 3, 1987, the Skyline Drive between Front Royal (Mile 0) and Thornton Gap (Mile 31) and between Swift Run Gap (Mile 65) and Rockfish Gap (Mile 105), will be closed daily between dusk and 8 a.m. The section of the Drive between Thornton Gap (U.S. 211) and Swift Run Gap (U.S. 33) will remain open 24 hours a day, weather permitting.
Superintendent Wrye said, “By closing portions of the Drive, rangers will be able to concentrate patrols on problem areas and increase hunter contacts along the Park boundary.”
