Robert Eastham, another Flint Hill resident, pointed out that citizen pressure in Fauquier resulted in the closure of Route 17 to trucks in that county. The Highway Department “is operating the*highways for the truckers and the road contractors,” he charged. “A resolution may not get us any action but it won’t do any harm!” He asked the board to petition the Highway Department to close the winding two-lane road over the mountain to “through tractortrailers coming from God knows where and going to God knows where and killing people in this county.”
