Ihe next day students focussed on Colonial Williamsburg as a community of families and craftsmen. They rounded out their day in the city with attendance at a colonial dance presented at the Capitol.
On the third day of the trip the students had the opportunity to meet with historical interpreters, who explained the ways historians gain knowledge about the past. They learned that the surveying of artifacts, letters, journals, and oral traditions all are useful to the historian in reconstructing the past.
The fourth and fifth grade trip to Williamsburg was specially arranged by fourth grade teacher Mrs. Sandra Mitchell, who says that her aim was to go beyond what tourists usually see at Williamsburg and to make the trip truly educational for her students.
