Please let me respond to the deliberately misleading letter by Robert Eastham last week. As Mr. Eastham well knows the plan for expanding the facilities at the high school are not proposed because our high school population is growing or is expected to grow, but because the high school plant is not adequate for the students it is now serving, and without improvements never will be adequate no matter how our school population shrinks. We have over 400 students expected to eat lunch in a cafeteria that theoretically can seat 90. In fact the cafeteria can barely seat 60. We have office and audio-visual equipment for the library stored in space needed for student study and book display because no guidance offices were included in the high school and those have taken the library office and storage space. We have students taking biology and earth science, two courses we claim are lab sciences in trying to meet state mandates, but the classrooms for these courses are not laboratories.
There are other inadequacies at the high school because the building was not designed right the first time, but I will mention only one other. We have the only known gym with two center lines. The playing court for basketball is short several feet and the end lines are dangerously
