of the Planning Commission, the board added a requirement for a public hearing on applications for exceptions to the subdivision ordinance with written notice of the hearing to be mailed to all adjoining landowners.

Supervisor Nelson Lane called for a further addition, suggesting that exceptions be granted only if ■ the departure could be made without destroying the intent of the subdivision ordinance. But after a whispered consultation with Supervisors Charles Estes and J. R. Latham, Mr. Lane abandoned his position and made the vote on adoption unanimous.

The second proposed amendment came without a recommendation from the Planning Commission. Newbill Miller, the board’s representative on the commission, explained that the planners had not
