sign and barely passable construction. Teachers and guidance counselors regularly need to vacate their rooms to permit other classes to use them. The facilities do not meet state requirements for science and special education. The library is overflowing its boundaries. The eating facilities are so poor as to be laughable - if you can laugh while sitting on the floor in the hallway eating your lunch every day. That its students continue to learn and achieve, that its teachers continue to think of new and better ways to help them learn, that its administrators remain cheerful and positive while juggling schedules, classrooms, ball games, dances, etc. is a tribute more to the human spirit than the result of a planned environment.
And Mr. Eastham’s second false assumption - one that is really more important than the first - is that enrollment has anything at all to do with a desire to give Rappahannock students a quality education. Every student who is enrolled, and every student who will be enrolled here deserves, and should be offered, the best the county can provide. We believe that one such step toward providing that will be to improve the facilities until they meet the standards of the state of Virginia. Surely other Rappahannock county residents will agree with this.
