The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter NSDAR met on Tuesday, October 14 at the Holiday Inn. Guest speaker was Colonel Leland J. Holland, U.S. Army, Commanding Officer of Vint Hill Farms Station and one of the Iranian hostages for the entire 444 days.
He was introduced by Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr., National Vice Chairman, National Defense Committee. Colonel Holland’s topic was “Triumph of the American Spirit.” He gave a concise and detailed description of his incarceration. He was in Iran for 1 1/2 years prior to the Embassy attack; he became fluent in their language; was in total isolation for most of the ordeal; was interrogated for as long as 36 hours straight; was quartered in pest-infested cell; and the entire stay was void of any world news. He highly recommends reading one of the seven books written on the hostage situation, more especially UUU Days
