Introduction to oil painting
Local artist Robin Purnell will offer a six-week class to introduce the participants to the basics of oil painting. Students will proceed step by step through the process from stretching the canvas to applying the final picture varnish. Techniques such as glazing, scrambling, and palette knife painting will be demonstrated.
The classes will be held on Tuesday evenings, 7 to 8:30, Sept. 29 through Nov. 3, at the Middle St. Gallery in Washington. The fee of $60 does not include materials. Call Robin Purnell at 675-3061.
Draft horse and mule show
The Old Dominion Draft Horse & Mule Show, sponsored by the Virginia Draft Horse & Mule Association, will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning at 8 a.m. at Warrenton Horse Show grounds, Route 29, Warrentoiu There will be 38 halier clawaea and 17 performance classes. Health Forum series at CMH
A fall Health Forum series will be held at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. The topic for Sept. 29 will be AIDS and will be directed by Dr. Harold Markham and Dr. John Einarson. Girl Scouts requesting bulbs
Hie Rappahannock Girl Scouts are doing a service project by planting bulbs at the Rappahannock Recreational Center. Amissville VFD fund drive
Uniformed members of the Amissville VFD are solicting contributions door-to-door throughout the Amissville, Viewtown and Jeffersonton areas in their annual fund drive. They are carrying fire department I.D. cards. The members of the department urge the community to contribute to keeping this essential service going.
As a final* to the fund drive and to kick-off the Fire Prevention Week, the department will hold an open house at the fire house Sunday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be demonstrations, literature and volunteers to answer questions. The community is invited to attend.
