Bikers pedal

for ALAV

Approximately 400 cyclists from across Virginia are expected to ride in the American Lung Association of Virginia’s (ALAV) largest special event, Bike Trek ’87.

The 100-mile ride through Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Surry is open to any cyclist, beginner or experienced, Oct. 2-4 or Oct. 9-11. Trekkers will ride a 50mile loop on Saturday and Sunday. All ages can participate, but trekkers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Each trekker must raise at least $200 in sponsors. Food, two nights’ lodging in Williamsburg and mechanical support are included in the $15 registration fee.

The trekker who raises the most over $2,500 will win a seven-day trip for two to the 1988 Coors Classic bike race in Colorado. Cyclist touring packages will be awarded to top fund-raisers. Denbigh/Hampton Schwinn Cyclery of Newport News will give gift certificates to trekkers who raise more than $250.

For more information on how to register, volunteer, or sponsor a trekker, call the local ALAV office or call toll-free, 1 (800) 345-LUNG.
