W.C. Freeman
William Chester (Duke) Freeman of Warrenton died Sept. 18 at Fauquier Hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Freeman was born March 3, 1906, in Warrenton, son of John and Lena Ford Freeman. He married Jean Bridgett of Front Royal, who predeceased him.
He was baptized at an early age as a member of First Baptist Church, Warrenton, and later moved his membership to Little Zion Baptist Church, Bethel.
Mr. Freeman loved horses and worked most of his life as a groom. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Lt. Charles R. Anderson American Legion Post 360 in Warrenton.
He is survived by a daughter Julia Mae Downing, Charles Town, W.Va., a stepson Ervin Bridgett, Front Royal, a sister Roberta Freeman, Warrenton, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two greatgreat-grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces.
Funeral services were to be conducted Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, Bethel, by Rev. Dinno McNeill. Interment will be at the Warrenton cemetery.
