Garden Club pays

tribute to mums

By MARIAN WHITE

Rappahannock News Contributing Writer

The Rappahannock County Garden Club ladies met last week under the stately trees of Oak Ledge for an all-out tribute to the versatile chrysanthemum. Michalene Chilton of the Aberdeen Green Landscape Garden Center spoke on fall planting and, in particular, mum cultivation.

Marjorie Exton was assisted by co-hostesses Mary Marocchi and Harriet Stokes.

Members exhibited arrangements of red, white and blue in honor of the Constitution. Florence Nordone received the blue ribbon, Frances Russell red, Christine Johnston yellow, Jane Peterson and Miriam Reeve honorable mention.

In the horticultural division Mary Marocchi received a blue ribbon for her spoon mum, Ellie Kreamer red for semi-double mum, Helen Brown yellow for double standard spray, Mary Stuart Bain red and yellow ribbons for standard sprays, and Marian White blue for acceptable spray.

Next month’s meeting will be a trip to the Virginia Art Museum in Richmond for a special flower show.
