To our very great surprise, the letter elicited zero response, either for the highway or against it.
This public apathy might be reason enough to let the project die. If no one really cares, why waste millions of dollars which could be put to better use? Why should a mighty interstate-quality thoroughfare have been proposed to connect Warrenton and points beyond with so inconsequential a hamlet as Sperryville? Could there be a little something more to this scheme?
With hundreds of acres to be condemned and millions of dollars to be spent, with priceless scenery to be destroyed and the possible loss of some significant architecture, isn’t public apathy
