One vote DOES count Saturday, Oct. 3 is the last day for Rappahannock residents to register to vote in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Although the county registrar’s office reports that registrations are up, there are still many county residents who are eligible to vote who are not registered. The following was sent to Ann Landers by an election judge in Missouri who had copied it from his judge’s manual. For those who complain that “Registering is a waste of time - my one vote won’t make a bit of difference,” we offer this compilation: In 1645, one vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England. In 1649, one vote caused Charles I of England to be executed. In 1776, one vote gave America the English language - instead of German. In 1845, one vote brought Texas into the Union.
